Have you ever thought about the words - social distance? Social distance. Two words that are meant to maintain physical distance to protect. These words have been heard probably every day for the past year. These two words don’t go together. To be social, you can’t be distanced. The purpose of these words are important in this pandemic we find ourselves in, but it is hard to be social when we can’t be together!
Social distance doesn’t allow for being with our friends, spending time with loved ones, or worshipping together in our Churches. Perhaps we have less communication with our friends or family from afar, may be missing our connection with our siblings in Christ, or missing spending time with Mission teams on campus. Spending time away from our friends, family and ministries can make us feel isolated or alone. But, we are not alone!
Psalm 139:2 “You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar”. God is not distant from us. He knows when we sit and rise! He knows our words before they are on our tongues! (Psalm 139:4) Psalm 139:7 states “ Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?”
He knows our thoughts from afar! We can not flee from His presence! We may have social distance, for the right reasons, but we don’t have to be distant from our God. He is with us. He wants us to be near to Him. He wants us to be social with Him. Kodiak Baptist Mission draws near to God every day. Our mission is to point to Christ in everything we do.
We may be distanced for safety precautions from our friends and siblings in Christ, but we are close in Spirit. Our God holds us in His hands. He is our connection with each other. Our prayers for each other connect us to the One True God that loves and cares. In this time of social distance know that Kodiak Baptist Mission misses you and is looking forward to just the social part of those two words!
But, more importantly, know that our God we serve together is not distant. He is with us! We rest on that fact. God hears. God knows. God loves. Jesus! Draw near to Jesus.
We look forward to seeing you on campus! Let us pray for each other during this time of distance.
